Software Engineer II - AI Insights

The Walt Disney Company•New York, NY
•$124,900 - $167,400

About The Position

Disney Entertainment and ESPN Product & Technology builds and advances the technological backbone for Disney’s global media business. Product Engineering develops Disney Entertainment and ESPN digital and streaming products and platforms, including personalization, commerce, lifecycle, identity, media engineering, and quality assurance. The Observability & Insights group helps ensure Disney Streaming’s distributed systems are reliable, performant, and transparent. It builds telemetry, dashboards, alerting, insight pipelines, and developer experience tools that help engineers understand system health and respond quickly. As a Software Engineer II, you will design and build AI-driven systems to improve the reliability and compliance of Disney’s large-scale streaming infrastructure. You will develop agentic systems, machine learning models, and real-time automation that turn telemetry, logs, and infrastructure signals into automated detection, root cause analysis, proactive policy enforcement, and insights. You will contribute to autonomous agents that reason over system behavior and help identify and resolve issues across Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN. You will also help develop infrastructure visibility and compliance systems, correlate services to incidents, and measure the operational impact of AI-driven observability tools. Working with engineering, product, and platform teams, you will embed intelligence into operational workflows. You will deliver high-quality features end to end, contribute to system design and architecture reviews, and begin owning production system components in an AI-native SRE environment.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of applicable backend development experience, including building AI-powered or data-driven applications and scalable APIs such as FastAPI or Flask.
  • Knowledge of AWS services and cloud architecture, including infrastructure characteristics relevant to reliability and compliance.
  • Practical AI/ML engineering experience in at least one area: agentic workflows orchestrating foundation models such as GPT-4 or Claude with frameworks such as LangChain or LangGraph; or traditional ML developing, training, or fine-tuning models with PyTorch or TensorFlow.
  • Proficiency with AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor or Claude Code.
  • Experience with modern development practices, including GitHub, Docker, and cloud-native deployments such as AWS/EKS.
  • Strong understanding of API design, microservices architecture, and standard SDLC workflows.
  • Strong analytical and technical skills, including troubleshooting, rapid iteration, and developing possible solutions.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with observability platforms such as Datadog, Grafana, or Conviva and high-volume telemetry data.
  • Familiarity with large-scale data platforms and distributed data processing tools such as PySpark, Pandas, Databricks, or Snowflake.
  • Knowledge of prompt design, model evaluation, and fine-tuning foundation models such as GPT-4 or Claude.
  • Experience implementing production-grade systems at scale in a fast-paced, distributed environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design and operate production-grade intelligent systems using real-time signals and AI-driven detection to improve streaming platform, critical service, and customer experience health.
  • Build and scale AI capabilities, including agentic systems powered by foundation models, predictive modeling, and anomaly detection for real-time system health and reliability.
  • Develop end-to-end data and decisioning pipelines that turn telemetry, logs, and user signals into actionable insights, automated detection, and root cause analysis.
  • Create and deploy scalable APIs and services that provide predictive signals, explainability, and insights to engineering teams, operational tools, and product stakeholders.
  • Contribute to infrastructure visibility and compliance systems that aggregate resource data across Disney products, support ownership-scoped queries, and prevent non-compliant deployments.
  • Partner cross-functionally to embed intelligence into incident response, release validation, and customer insights workflows, improving speed and reducing operational overhead.
  • Advance observability, reliability, and developer productivity through innovation and applied AI.
  • Deliver high-quality features end to end, contribute to system design and architecture reviews, and begin owning production system components.

Benefits

  • A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package.
  • Medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
