About The Position

PagerDuty is seeking a Full-Stack Software Engineer to join their diverse and customer-focused team. The role involves working on the authentication and authorization platform, a core business component that enables secure access and data usage governance within PagerDuty. The engineer will work across the full stack, including Rails and React, and contribute to pioneering agentic development practices that integrate AI as a primary engineering partner. The Authentication and Authorization Team is looking for a passionate software engineer to help build the future security platform for the Operations Cloud. This role will contribute to realizing the long-term vision for an innovative, flexible, and extensible identity platform, building AI-native foundations for highly available services, scalable databases, and secure APIs that support both users and AI/agentic products relying on PagerDuty for secure access. The position offers opportunities to collaborate with product and design teams on new features and promote engineering excellence throughout the design, development, testing, and release cycles.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience designing, building, and operating large systems with scalability, availability, and performance requirements.
  • Development experience building and operating customer-facing, web-based products.
  • Demonstrated experience with Ruby, React, and AI coding tools.

Nice To Haves

  • Operational experience in cloud technologies such as AWS.
  • Experience with languages such as Elixir or Java.
  • Operational experience with databases & tools (e.g. MySQL, Aurora, Kafka, NoSQL, applying software engineering principles to data problems, etc.).
  • Experience building user-facing public APIs.
  • Experience designing & implementing distributed and highly available systems.
  • Exposure to or interest in authentication/authorization concepts (e.g. OAuth, SSO, RBAC/ReBAC).

Responsibilities

  • Designing, coding, testing, and shipping backend applications and microservices, APIs, and front-end interfaces that ensure secure, highly reliable, and scalable solutions.
  • Collaborating closely with engineers across teams, as the team owns and operates what they build.
  • Solving technical challenges to scale the product to meet the demands of over 20,000 global customers.
  • Participating in the team's on-call rotation, triaging and addressing production issues.
