A reasonable estimate of the current range is: Grade: Technical 408 Pay Range: $118,900.00 - $178,500.00 The Software Engineer II is an early- to mid-career contributor that has a combination of formal education and experience in the software engineering field. They are responsible for the research, design, development, analysis, testing, and implementation of software operating or application systems. They communicate project information to client, project manager, or other design personnel working on projects. They maintain good working relationships with clients and staff. They write and maintain complete documentation. They support team members and ensure established goals and deadlines are met. They keep management informed of status and significant problems. We're looking for a Software Engineer who is passionate about building scalable, reliable, and impactful software solutions. In this role, you'll help design and develop systems that support online education at scale, working alongside talented engineers, architects, and product teams to create innovative experiences for students and faculty. You'll have the opportunity to solve complex technical challenges, contribute to modern cloud-based platforms, and influence how our systems evolve. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Equivalent professional experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 3+ years of experience developing web-based applications and services.
  • Experience building applications with Python, Nest.js and modern web technologies.
  • Experience developing RESTful APIs and integrating distributed systems.
  • Hands-on experience with relational databases and data-driven applications.
  • Experience collaborating within Agile development teams.
  • Strong understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including system design, testing, performance, security, and code quality.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and deploy modern web applications and services using Java and related technologies.
  • Build scalable, resilient, and secure solutions that support thousands of users in a cloud-based environment.
  • Partner with engineers, product owners, and operations teams to deliver features from concept through production.
  • Translate business requirements into technical designs and high-quality code.
  • Identify opportunities to improve system performance, reliability, maintainability, and developer efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot production issues and contribute to rapid problem resolution and service restoration.
  • Participate in architecture discussions and help shape technical solutions that balance business needs, quality, and delivery timelines.
  • Develop automated tests and implement quality practices that ensure confidence in releases.
  • Contribute to code reviews, technical documentation, and knowledge-sharing initiatives across the engineering team.
