Collins Aerospace is seeking a motivated Electrical or Computer Engineering candidate to join the Microelectronics Technology Directorate within the Applied Research and Technology organization. The engineer will support Mission Systems products by developing and optimizing Board Support Package (BSP) solutions for custom hardware, including bootloader development, Linux kernel tailoring, and device-driver creation. The role collaborates with software, systems, hardware, and FPGA teams on aerospace and defense technologies. The position designs, develops, and maintains a customized Linux operating-system ecosystem across areas such as the build toolchain, kernel, root filesystem, bootloader, device drivers, and BSP for a variety of hardware boards. It also contributes to embedded Linux software design, coding, testing, delivery, and ongoing support; investigates complex hardware-software issues; and prepares software builds for simulation, reference platforms, and target hardware. The engineer follows Collins Aerospace product-development processes and tools to support product quality and customer satisfaction. The role provides opportunities to learn embedded engineering practices and processes, work with in-house and vendor technologies, and see how embedded Linux and low-level software support communications, security, and space-based products. The role is onsite in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. U.S. citizenship and an active, existing DoD Secret clearance after day one are required; the candidate must also be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.
