About The Position

As a dedicated Software Engineer I - Claims, you will provide support to the Enterprise through delivering best-in-class technology solutions that support and enhance USAA’s core claims applications. You will engage in all phases of the software systems and application development lifecycle, which include gathering and analyzing requirements, designing, testing, documenting, and implementing software, and responding to outages. We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in Phoenix, AZ. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree; OR 4 years of relevant education and/or experience.
4 years of software development experience demonstrating depth of technical understanding within a specific discipline(s)/technology(s).
2 years of experience delivering technology solutions in all phases of the software systems and application development lifecycle to include leading code/design reviews.
Hands-on software development experience with Java and Spring Boot.
Basic Understanding of one or more of the following: Java, Swift, Objective-C, Cobol, JavaScript, Kotlin, C++, HTML, CSS, SQL, Go, and Python.
Developing level of business acumen in the areas of business operations, risk management, industry practices and emerging trends.
Experience supporting efforts to address production issues through troubleshooting applications and systems.
Experience articulating technical challenges and solutions.
Basic understanding of cloud technologies and tools.

Nice To Haves

Experience deploying Cloud applications with AWS.
2+ years in REST frameworks with focus on API development
2+ years in AGILE methodology
1+ years experience working with JavaScript
2+ years experience integrating with backend services like JMS, J2C, ORM frameworks (Hibernate, JPA, JDO, etc), JDBC.
Experience building APIs with Spring Boot.
Experience with event driven frameworks such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, IBM MQ.
Ability to implement container based APIs using a container frameworks OpenShift, Docker, or Kubernetes.
Relational Database design and optimization with Oracle DB2, MySQL, Postgress.
Familiar with Gradle, GIT, GitHUB, GITLab, etc. around continuous integration and continuous delivery infrastructure.
Experience testing in REST services.
Experience in design and develop automated test framework.
US military experience gained through military service or gained as a military spouse / domestic partner.

Follows the software development lifecycle.
Participates in design reviews and learns key system design principles.
Mentors junior engineers and may begin mentoring peer engineers; Review teammates' code.
Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
