About The Position

Walmart is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead the delivery of scalable, secure software solutions aligned with platform and business objectives. This role involves full lifecycle development, including design, coding, testing, and deployment of services, APIs, and AI/ML components. The successful candidate will collaborate across teams to translate complex requirements into effective technical solutions, drive continuous improvement, and ensure high-quality outcomes. The Backbone Engineering team combines engineering, UX, and product management to deliver innovative products and site features using open-source technologies such as Java, React, NextJS, and Kubernetes. The team prioritizes scalable, reliable solutions through continuous innovation and iterative development driven by business feedback. Requirements

  • Proven expertise in object-oriented programming and documentation-based coding practices.
  • Strong experience delivering scoped features or models through collaborative engineering teams.
  • Proficiency in debugging, code review, and continuous development with a focus on quality and reliability.
  • Ability to integrate AI/ML components and leverage generative AI tools to enhance software solutions.
  • Demonstrated skill in designing scalable, secure, and maintainable software systems aligned with business goals.
  • Experience driving full software development lifecycle including CI/CD, automated testing, and monitoring.
  • Effective collaboration and communication skills to engage stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
  • Commitment to technical ownership, continuous improvement, and mentoring peers.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 1 year's experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.
  • Knowledge of accessibility best practices and joining us as we continue to create accessible products and services following Walmart’s accessibility standards and guidelines for supporting an inclusive culture.

Responsibilities

  • Own delivery of scoped features and models through collaborative engineering teams, managing implementation, iteration, testing, and support.
  • Write clean, efficient, and reliable code across multiple languages, driving full software development lifecycle including CI/CD and automated testing.
  • Integrate AI/ML components and leverage generative AI tools to enhance software intelligence and development velocity.
  • Assist in solution design, evaluating trade-offs to build scalable, secure, and maintainable systems aligned with platform objectives.
  • Conduct code reviews, debugging, and defect management to ensure high-quality deliverables.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business needs into technical requirements and measurable outcomes.
  • Monitor application performance and maintain system reliability through proactive DevOps practices.
