About The Position

Mixpanel is seeking a Software Engineer for its DevInfra team. This role focuses on improving the software development lifecycle for all of Mixpanel's engineering teams by automating tasks, solving tooling pain points, and enhancing speed, safety, and reliability. The DevInfra team acts as a force multiplier, supporting various engineering functions from front-end UI to deep-stack storage systems. They are responsible for deploying AI tools, building agents for on-call support and bug resolution, and managing large-scale data ingestion systems. The team also administers Mixpanel's Google Cloud Platform environment, including Terraform, cost management, networking, security, and Kubernetes. They own observability pipelines, maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, manage a devbox system for cloud development environments, and procure SaaS tooling. Additionally, they manage the new engineer onboarding process.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of industry experience.
  • Experience with at least one of: Go, Python, or JavaScript/TypeScript.
  • Production experience working with Kubernetes.
  • Production experience managing infrastructure in a major cloud provider such as Google Cloud Platform, Amazon Web Services, or Azure.
  • Knowledgeable about coding agents like Claude Code.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferably Google Cloud Platform experience.
  • Experience with observability solutions like OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, or Distributed Tracing for application monitoring and performance analysis.
  • Experience with service mesh.
  • You write excellent docs.
  • Proficient with GitHub Actions and the GitHub ecosystem.
  • Experience building deployment pipelines.

  • Experience with Terraform.
  • Experience with cloud Identity and Access Management (IAM) systems and knowledgeable about security best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with a wide variety of teams to build out their software development lifecycle, optimized for speed, safety, and reliability.
  • Support teams writing front-end UI code as well as teams maintaining highly stateful storage systems.
  • Deploy AI tools like Claude Code to the entire engineering team.
  • Build agents into the platform for augmenting on-call response and automatically addressing bugs.
  • Support systems that ingest over 1 trillion user-generated events monthly while balancing low end-to-end query latency.
  • Act as the overall administrator for Mixpanel's Google Cloud Platform environment, managing Terraform, cost management, networking, and security best practices.
  • Serve as the overall service owner for Kubernetes.
  • Set standards for deployment, observability, and developer experience.
  • Facilitate Kubernetes version upgrades and help teams adopt new Google Kubernetes Engine features.
  • Own the service for observability pipelines, including instrumenting Prometheus metrics and ingesting distributed tracing spans.
  • Maintain GitHub Actions based CI/CD pipelines.
  • Maintain a robust GitHub-native delivery process that empowers teams to self-serve.
  • Maintain the devbox system that provisions cloud development environments for individual developers.
  • Procure best-in-breed SaaS tooling for the rest of engineering.
  • Own the relationship with key vendors like GitHub, Honeycomb, Chronosphere, and Sentry.
  • Run the new engineer onboarding process.
