About The Position

HBK Capital Management is an alternative investment firm currently managing approximately $7 billion in assets. The firm was founded in 1991 and employs approximately 160 individuals in Dallas, New York, London, and Charlottesville. HBK is searching for a software developer to join our team in New York on a full-time basis. Our developers are organized into small teams with independent prioritization and release schedules. A flat organizational structure allows for the opportunity to migrate across teams and broaden your business knowledge and experience. The mandate of HBK’s Data Team is to provide both traditional and alternative data sets to the front office. This candidate will work closely with the front office to improve our data ingestion and analysis. As a business-critical resource, members of the data team interact with our investment professionals to provide expertise, guidance, and high-quality data for usage across the firm. The role requires intellectual agility, solid judgment, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to deliver. The ideal software engineer will synthesize their experience in development, project management, business analysis, and data to partner with clients from across the firm.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related STEM field
  • Experience with data sets that are specific to an industry (financial data preferred)
  • 2+ years of programming experience (Python preferred)
  • Strong SQL experience (Microsoft SQL Server a plus)
  • Proven track record of business analysis while working directly with front office users
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Intellectual curiosity, strong analytical and quantitative skills, and a high degree of self-direction
  • Effective time management and organization skills - ability to adapt to changing priorities and work well in an environment driven by delivering well designed value to the business

Responsibilities

  • Partner with all departments in the firm, including front office analysts and quants, on a wide variety of financial, macroeconomic, and alternative data
  • Deliver data quickly while leveraging the appropriate software engineering techniques, including thoughtful design, unit testing, integration testing, and development
  • Provide new ideas and enhancements to automate systems and processes
  • Maintain and enhance our data platform and firm-wide shared software infrastructure in collaboration with the other Technology teams
  • Participate in the Level III support rotation
