Software Engineer, Code Quality
About The Position
The Code Quality team, within the Developer Platform organization, is responsible for maintaining the health and security of DoorDash's codebase as it scales. This includes managing systems for static analysis, quality gates, test frameworks, regression infrastructure, and tooling. The team's goal is to ensure that the signals engineers rely on before shipping, such as test results and coverage, are fast and trustworthy. The decisions made regarding tooling and standards directly influence how confidently and quickly engineering teams can ship to production. This role involves building and maintaining systems that validate code quality across DoorDash's engineering organization, treating the tooling as a critical product for daily users. The engineer will design tooling and automation to derive trustworthy quality signals, integrate them into the development lifecycle, and facilitate reliable, repeatable workflows. Collaboration with engineering teams across the organization is key to understanding the accuracy, reliability, and performance of their functionality. The position reports to the Engineering Manager on the Code Quality team within the Developer Platform organization and requires the candidate to be located in San Francisco, CA, Sunnyvale, CA, Los Angeles, CA, Seattle, WA, or New York, NY.
Requirements
- Experience building software quality infrastructure, test automation, meaningful ownership of build systems, CI/CD infrastructure, or developer productivity tooling
- Strong debugging track record and have shipped changes that measurably improved an engineering team's workflow
- Communicate clearly and partner effectively across functions — with engineers, product managers, and QA — to understand and solve real problems
- Comfortable working through ambiguous, cross-team problems and taking them to a solution with minimal guidance
- Proficiency in using AI coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Codex, Cursor) in the full software development lifecycle, including designing, generating code, testing, monitoring and releasing software
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain quality tooling — static analysis, quality gates, coverage reporting, test frameworks, regression infrastructure — and integrate it directly into our developer workflows and CI/CD pipelines
- Define and derive quality signals - flakiness, pass rate, coverage, performance, scale readiness etc -
- Build tooling that improves everyday engineering workflows, including local development, CI/CD, debugging, and rollouts
- Explore how AI agents and tools can automate parts of building quality checks, and use real engineering usage data to measure their impact
- Partner directly with engineering, product, and QA teams across DoorDash to find their biggest bottlenecks and ship tooling that demonstrably improves them
