About The Position

Realtor.com® is seeking a Software Engineer to join their infrastructure organization, specifically within the Cloud Governance team. This role focuses on enhancing the internal developer experience by building tools, integrations, and automation that enable engineering teams to deploy faster, more cost-effectively, and securely on AWS. The mission is to embed compliance, security, and financial visibility into automated, self-service developer workflows, making the compliant path the easiest one. The engineer will manage commitments, proactively identify blockers, and adopt a 'RealOwnership' mindset while scaling the Internal Developer Portal (IDP) based on the Backstage platform. The role also emphasizes the proficient use of AI coding assistants and LLMs to accelerate development, generate boilerplate code, and troubleshoot issues, with the critical judgment to verify AI-generated outputs for security and performance.

Requirements

  • 2–4 years of professional software development experience with a solid foundational understanding of both frontend and backend systems.
  • Hands-on experience building clean, interactive web user interfaces using React.
  • Strong proficiency in Node.js and Python for building APIs, microservices, and infrastructure automation.
  • Working knowledge of core AWS services, including compute/orchestration (Amazon EKS, Lambda) and storage/security (S3, IAM policies, roles, and security boundaries).
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform or CloudFormation templates.
  • Clear Communication: Ability to communicate tasks, technical challenges, and blockers clearly within a squad framework.
  • Squad-Level Collaboration: Active contributor to team collaboration, receptive to feedback, and comfortable iterating quickly.
  • Iterative Mindset: Excited by the 'Build, Reconstruct, Build Better' value, with the ability to fail fast and continuously improve code and processes.
  • Customer-Centric Execution: Empathy for the developer experience, focusing execution on making compliance intuitive and friction-free for end users.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain the Backstage instance, working across the full stack from React-based frontend components to Node.js microservices.
  • Design, develop, and maintain custom plugins to integrate various tools (Finout, ServiceNow, CircleCI, monitoring, security tools) into a unified interface.
  • Create automated 'Software Templates' enabling developers to provision production-ready, pre-governed AWS environments directly from the portal.
  • Write Python and Node.js automation scripts to enforce cloud compliance, IAM best practices, and resource lifecycle rules.
  • Integrate AWS CloudWatch metrics, audit data, and cost frameworks into Backstage entity pages for real-time service health and cloud spend visibility.
  • Ensure all automated portal actions and provisioned resources adhere strictly to corporate IAM, CloudTrail, and auditing standards.

Benefits

  • A warm, welcoming, and inclusive culture.
