Software Engineer, CI/CD

NeuralinkSouth San Francisco, CA
$123,000 - $216,000

About The Position

Neuralink is creating devices that enable a bi-directional interface with the brain, aiming to restore movement to the paralyzed, sight to the blind, and revolutionize human interaction with the digital world. The Infrastructure Team builds the foundation for the company's operations, ensuring safety, robustness, and speed. They manage a mix of cloud-based and on-prem systems, serving a diverse user base from highly technical engineers to non-technical scientists and doctors, all of whom require reliable systems, rugged networking, and dependable software. As a Software Engineer, CI/CD, you will integrate closely with teams across the company, spanning all layers of the work environment stack. This includes the deployment of physical hardware on the manufacturing line and custom tooling for streaming neural recordings from implants. You will be responsible for designing and scaling the CI/CD platform to enable engineering teams to ship safely and quickly across various verticals such as Brain Implant, Surgical Robot, BCI App, Clinical, Full-stack services, and infrastructure. Your role will involve owning software/firmware build tooling at scale, including remote caching, remote execution, and target identification. You will also operate and scale a runner fleet across on-prem and cloud clusters, supporting multiple hardware platforms like Mac, Linux, Embedded devices, and Hardware-in-the-loop fixtures. Maintaining reproducible build and CI environments with Nix, instrumenting CI health with Prometheus metrics, Grafana dashboards, and automated alerting, and reducing developer cycle time through various optimization strategies are also key aspects of this position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, a related field, or equivalent work experience
  • Deep experience operating Bazel, or similar hermetic build systems
  • Hands-on experience operating Kubernetes
  • Production experience with GitLab CI (or comparable CI platform), including pipeline architecture, runner fleet management, and custom executor integrations
  • Expertise in operating UNIX systems, including Linux and Mac
  • Familiarity with Nix for reproducible environments, or equivalent experience ensuring hermetic, cacheable builds

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with hardware in the loop testing setups
  • Experience working with build system and CI tooling in a monorepo context
