About The Position

Google's software engineers develop next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information. This role is for a Software Engineer working on BigQuery Managed Storage. BigQuery is an exabyte scale cloud-based data warehouse, a multi-tenant system storing exabytes of user data. The storage component is responsible for getting user data in and out of BigQuery, and for automatically optimizing its physical shape for scale, speed, and ease of use. The position involves driving the metamorphosis of BigQuery into a high-throughput transactional platform by implementing core transactional features, change history, fine-grained Data Manipulation Language (DML), and Change Data Capture (CDC) upserts for both Iceberg and native managed tables, amplified by Vortex. In this role, you will help build and deliver a data mutation platform for BigQuery, which will have a huge impact on BigQuery, Data Analytics, and GCP. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience with developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage or hardware architecture.
  • 2 years of experience with software development, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree in an industry setting.
  • Experience with distributed computing, distributed databases, and distributed systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical fields.
  • 2 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
  • Experience working with BigQuery, database, or storage systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement storage components to support large scale streaming ingestion.
  • Design and implement algorithms to expand BigQuery’s DML capabilities.
  • Design and implement tests and experiments to evaluate and monitor the performance of the system.
  • Use the full battery of tools and instrumentation to develop, test, and rollout features.
  • Coordinate with product engineers in all parts of the software stack.
