About The Position

DigitalOcean is seeking early-career, general-purpose Software Engineers to join the Physical Infrastructure Engineering team. The primary mission is to leverage AI tools and technology to automate manual, repetitive work that slows down teams. This role involves partnering closely with technical program managers and infrastructure teams to understand current workflows, automate manual steps, and enable the organization to move faster and scale further. The role is designed for engineers who embrace AI-assisted development, using tools like Cursor and Claude to build internal tools, products, and technology for scaling the organization. Ideal candidates are builders who prioritize AI, possess strong judgment for code verification and issue identification, have a positive attitude, are self-driven, motivated to add value, and eager to take on new challenges.

Requirements

  • Some exposure to Python or Go, through coursework, internships, personal projects, or early professional experience (roughly 0 to 2 years).
  • Comfort using Linux (Ubuntu LTS), or eagerness to learn quickly.
  • Familiarity with shell scripting and Git.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfort working in an asynchronous, remote environment.
  • Openness to constructive feedback.

Nice To Haves

  • Some exposure to CI/CD concepts is a plus (GitHub Actions and Concourse are used).

Responsibilities

  • Write automation primarily in Golang and Python, using AI tools as the default method for writing and iterating on code.
  • Partner with TPMs and infrastructure teams to understand current workflows, identify manual and repetitive steps, and automate them.
  • Take a workflow end-to-end: from spotting toil to building automation and shipping reliable solutions.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across infrastructure to identify and automate manual, repetitive processes.
  • Contribute to tooling that enhances hardware and capacity visibility across DigitalOcean's global infrastructure.
  • Demonstrate work to engineering groups.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects within the broader Hardware Lifecycle Engineering platform.
  • Create simple and understandable automation systems for other groups to use.
