About The Position

VisitorsCoverage, a Great Place to Work ® certified InsurTech company in Silicon Valley, is seeking a full-time Software Engineer (AI-First). This role is designed for an early-career engineer with strong fundamentals, practical web application experience, and a disciplined approach to using AI-assisted development tools. The engineer will support a high-performing team by delivering technical work across backend, frontend, data, testing, and internal tooling. The position is hybrid, requiring 4 days in the Santa Clara, California office and 1 day remote. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. VisitorsCoverage simplifies travel insurance, aiming to provide an online shopping experience similar to major e-commerce platforms. Requirements

  • Strong programming fundamentals and object-oriented design principles.
  • Experience with PHP.
  • Solid JavaScript knowledge and familiarity with MVC frameworks.
  • Experience building modern web applications.
  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and responsive web development.
  • Experience with SQL databases and relational database design.
  • Familiarity with REST APIs.
  • Experience using Git and collaborative development workflows.
  • Strong debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to quickly learn new technologies and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Ability to use AI-assisted development tools responsibly while validating code quality, security, and maintainability.
  • 2–3 years of professional software development experience.
  • Experience delivering production-quality web applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with one or more of the following (Vue.js, Python, Docker, AWS, Redis, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, Linux, or third-party API integrations).

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain well-defined features across the stack, with guidance from senior engineers.
  • Support backend, frontend, API integration, data, testing, debugging, and internal tooling work as team priorities shift.
  • Use AI-assisted tools for coding, debugging, documentation, and research while validating outputs through testing, reasoning, and code review.
  • Write clean, readable, and maintainable code with attention to programming fundamentals and team standards.
  • Write unit/integration tests and participate in peer code reviews to maintain team standards.
  • Break down problems into clear steps, ask strong questions, and escalate risks early.
  • Contribute to documentation, automation, and engineering hygiene that improve team speed and reliability.
  • Learn the product domain, customer workflows, and business context so technical work maps to real outcomes.
