Job Description: Software Engineer 3 – Packet Forwarding (Data Center Networking) Location (HYBRID, 3 days a week): Sunnyvale, CA Join the Packet Forwarding Software Team working on the QFX5K/EX product line, driving innovation in data center and cloud networking. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge networking technologies and make a meaningful impact on the broader network industry.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred)
  • Prior industry experience in software engineering is a plus
  • Strong foundation in algorithms, data structures, object-oriented design, and complexity analysis
  • Proficiency in C/C++ programming
  • Solid understanding of computer networking (TCP/IP), operating systems, and algorithms
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills
  • Good communication skills and ability to collaborate in a team setting

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python)
  • Exposure to embedded systems, GDB, and multithreaded programming
  • Dockers & AIML related skills

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop packet forwarding features, including L2/L3, EVPN-VXLAN, routing, firewall, QoS, and related protocols
  • Build networking applications using object-oriented design and modern open-source tools
  • Support and enhance existing products and features
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex internal testing issues and real-world customer networking problems
  • Develop software features using C and C++
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Development, Product Management (PLM), System Test, and Documentation teams
