About The Position

The Business Banking team is a core team helping to deliver an integrated offering inclusive of banking, payments, and software. This role will make it easy for Small Business Customers to access the full suite of services offered through a combination of digital and human capabilities. The candidate will be working alongside fellow engineers to build digital products and modernize the business banking platform.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience
  • Three to five years of relevant experience

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on backend development using Java (Java EE/Java 8+), Spring Boot, and RESTful API design
  • Strong experience building scalable microservices with focus on API security (OAuth, JWT) and resilience patterns
  • Hands-on with cloud-native development on Azure, AWS, or GCP; Kubernetes/container orchestration experience preferred
  • Proficient in API management & service mesh tools (Apigee, Istio) and CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins/CloudBees)
  • Experience with data systems including RDBMS (PostgreSQL, SQL Server) and NoSQL (Cassandra)
  • Exposure to streaming & event-driven architectures (Kafka, Spark) and modern API paradigms like GraphQL
  • Strong foundation in Agile/Scrum, DevOps principles, and engineering tools (Git, Jira, automated testing frameworks)
  • Excellent problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills with ability to translate business needs into technical solutions

Responsibilities

  • Designing, developing, testing, operating and maintaining products
  • Taking full stack ownership by consistently writing production-ready and testable code
  • Consistently creating optimal designs adhering to architectural best practices, considering scalability, reliability, and performance of systems/contexts affected when defining technical designs
  • Performing analysis on failures, proposing design changes, and encouraging operational improvements
  • Making sound design/coding decisions keeping customer experience in the forefront
  • Taking feedback from code review and applying changes to meet standards
  • Conducting code reviews to provide guidance on engineering best practices and compliance with development procedures
  • Ensuring all aspects of product development follow compliance and security best practices
  • Exhibiting relentless focus in software reliability engineering standards embedded into development standards
  • Embracing emerging technology opportunities and contributing to best practices in support of the bank’s technology transformation
  • Contributing to a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement
  • Reviewing tasks critically and ensuring they are appropriately prioritized and sized for incremental delivery; anticipating and communicating blockers and delays before they require escalation
