About The Position

Amazon Leo is Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite network, aiming to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. The Leo Software Defined Networking (SDN) team is responsible for the network virtualization stack and SDN control plane signaling, covering beam planning, routing, and forwarding through its SDN Controller, Agents, and Applications. This role involves leading the Skynet Operations team to build advanced global telecom services via space and terrestrial networks. The manager will lead a team of network and software engineers to develop observability tools, ensuring high-quality, secure, and fault-tolerant software for LEO satellites, ground Gateways, and Customer Terminals. The position requires defining the team's long-term vision and structure, leveraging expertise in modern development practices and network operations to deliver best-in-class software systems.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience
  • 7+ years of engineering experience
  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Responsibilities

  • Hire, support and develop a team of exceptional software developers for the Skynet Operations team
  • Define the multi-year vision and strategy for the team
  • Lead software and network engineers to help cross-organizational teams efficiently troubleshoot the network across challenging mobile, space and terrestrial environments.
  • Manage and monitor our KPIs for the Leo Networking Service
  • Manage the software lifecycle of your deliverables from concept to operations
