About The Position

Amazon Web Services is looking for experienced engineering leaders to help us define and build the future of computing. The AWS Elastic Block Store (EBS) service delivers high performance virtualized storage "in the cloud" for EC2. Durable storage is a key building block for any application and as a member of the EBS team you'll work alongside other leaders to develop and operate one of the largest storage services in the world. As a member of the EBS team, you will have strong ownership over the design, implementation, and operation of a massive scale distributed system. You'll work closely with an agile team and you will be able to see the impact your work has on real customers. You'll also have the opportunity to work across a range of technologies, from low level high performance storage systems in C/C++, to massive real time data analytics.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
• 10+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
• 5+ years of engineering team management experience
• 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
• Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
• Experience partnering with product or program management teams

• Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
• Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
• Experience in technical support, or experience managing full application stacks from the OS up through custom applications and experience that includes strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities
• Can show strong verbal and written communication skills
• Experience conveying complex technical concepts to both technical and business audiences
• Experience with software development in a team, and a track record of shipping software on time
• Experience working with customers with a passion for delivering exceptional service, or experience in technical support and experience that includes strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities
• Experience prioritizing competing demands, scoping large efforts, and negotiating timelines
• Experience in networking, storage systems, operating systems and hands-on systems engineering

Responsibilities

• Own, build, and grow the core storage systems that make up EBS.
• Grow and lead the team that will design, develop, test, and operate key, scalable systems.
• Set and meet goals as a member of the EBS leadership team.
• Help shape our long term technical and business strategy by working with customers and other leaders throughout AWS.
