As the manager on Checkout, you will be part of the core engineering team at Amazon building the underlying checkout platform used by hundreds of millions of customers across the world every day. You will be directly responsible for the availability of the platform and the latency of the checkout experience, holding the highest standards to ensure that changes from software builders do not regress performance for customers. You will collaborate closely with product and program management teams to translate customer needs into technical priorities and deliver results. You will also change how the team operates by championing AI-native development practices that accelerate velocity and improve quality. A successful Software Development Manager should be highly autonomous with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze quantitatively, scope technical requirements, effectively prioritize program deliverables, and communicate clearly. Requirements

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience
  • 7+ years of engineering experience
  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
  • 3+ years of Software Engineer, Software Developer, or related occupational experience
  • 1+ years of providing technical leadership and project management for all aspects of the software development lifecycle experience
  • 1+ years of developing large-scale, multi-tiered distributed software systems using Java, C#, or C++ experience
  • 1+ years of developing large-scale, multi-tiered distributed software systems using service-oriented architecture experience
  • 1+ years of developing large-scale, multi-tiered distributed software systems using distributed programming experience
  • Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
  • Experience in operations of highly available and scalable internet systems with a large customer base
  • Experience troubleshooting and debugging technical systems
  • Experience leading and influencing your team or organization, or experience in debugging, profiling, and implementing software engineering best practices in large-scale systems
  • Experience overseeing roadmap strategy and definition throughout the product life cycle from concept to end of lifecycle
  • Experience championing AI-native development practices, including AI-assisted coding, testing, or operational tooling.
