About The Position

This role is for a Software Development Manager on the Amazon S3 Tables team. Amazon S3 is the storage for the internet, and Amazon S3 Tables deliver the first cloud object store with built-in Apache Iceberg support, streamlining the storage of tabular data at scale. The team is at the forefront of large-scale data management, contributing to the Apache Iceberg project and shaping the future of open table formats. They focus on making data ingestion reliable, cost-effective, and easy to implement from any source system, while maintaining compatibility with popular analytics engines and ensuring optimal query performance through intelligent partitioning and indexing strategies. The role is within AWS Utility Computing (UC), which provides product innovations across various AWS services like S3 and EC2, and supports customers requiring specialized security solutions.

Requirements

• 3+ years of engineering team management experience
• 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
• 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
• 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
• Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
• Experience partnering with product or program management teams

• Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
• Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with experienced cross-disciplinary Amazonians to conceive, design, and bring innovative products and services to market.
• Design and build innovative technologies in a large distributed computing environment and help lead fundamental changes in the industry.
• Work with other team members to investigate design approaches, prototype new technology and evaluate technical feasibility.
• Define engineering roadmap and drive architectural simplification to ensure systems are built for Durability, Availability and Maintainability.
• Work in an agile environment to deliver high-quality software.
• Create and nurture a team culture that allows individuals to perform at their best, while solving complex problems and delivering solutions that delight our customers.
