About The Position

The Joint Mobile Engineering Team (JMET) is a specialized security engineering group within Apple’s IS&T Group. We provide critical services across all Apple product lines, from manufacturing to customer-facing aspects, spanning the entire lifecycle of most Apple hardware. Our responsibilities include designing, implementing, and supporting security services that enhance customer safety and privacy, tightly integrated with hardware. This involves developing server-side solutions for activating Apple devices globally and contributing to advancements like eSIM technology. We collaborate closely with various cross-functional teams within Apple, as well as external partners like carriers and third parties. Many of our services are documented in the iOS Security Guide or discussed publicly. As an engineer on this team, you will contribute to initiatives crucial for upcoming product launches and product security, working with large cross-functional teams to align expectations and validate work.

Requirements

  • Object-oriented programming and design experience, including Java.
  • Experience with Spring Boot and Microservices specifically building scalable RESTful API.
  • Experience with relational databases and NoSQL databases, like Oracle and Cassandra.
  • Well understanding with application design, development, and integration of high volume/low latency server applications.
  • Experience with automated testing methodologies and frameworks.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with event stream systems and asynchronous backend services — Kafka or Rabbit is a plus.
  • Experience in the wireless industry, or practical experience and a demonstrated interest in client/server development that involves iOS or other mobile platforms.
  • Knowledge of C is a plus.
  • Familiarity with build tools such as Maven or Gradle.
  • Familiarity with version control systems such as Git.
  • BS/MS in Computer Science or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in backend system.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret production logs and traffic patterns.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and support security services tightly coupled with hardware.
  • Develop server-side solutions for activating Apple devices worldwide.
  • Contribute to Apple’s pioneering efforts in eSIM.
  • Work with partners, project managers, and cross-disciplinary teams to understand and capture requirements.
  • Participate in initiatives important to the success of upcoming product launches and product security initiatives.
  • Work with large cross-functional teams to align expectations and validate work.
  • Build highly scalable, distributed server applications.
  • Produce high-quality, highly scalable multi-tenant applications that can adapt to changing business needs.
  • Write good quality code and undergo detailed audits.
