About The Position

Apple’s Information Systems and Technology (IS&T) organization builds and operates technology systems supporting Apple customers and employees. Retail and Marcom Engineering builds and operates systems and experiences connecting Apple products with customers, including technology for Apple’s online and physical stores and tools for interactive marketing and creative operations.

As an SDET on the Retail Engineering (AOS & ASA) Quality Engineering team, you will design, develop, and maintain automated test frameworks and test suites that validate web, mobile, and backend eCommerce functionality. You will work with software engineers and product managers to define test strategies, verify system testability, and execute test plans. The role promotes test automation across UI and API layers and delivers quality metrics to support platform reliability throughout the software release lifecycle.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or an equivalent field, or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 5 years of hands-on programming and coding experience, with strong proficiency in Java.
• Hands-on experience building and maintaining UI automation frameworks such as Selenium, Playwright, Appium, or equivalent for web and/or mobile applications.
• Professional fluency in written and spoken English and the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and collaborate with global cross-functional engineering teams.
• Solid knowledge of the software development lifecycle (SDLC), testing methodologies, and QA best practices.
• Experience delivering test automation as an SDET or in a similar role, focused on eCommerce platforms or large-scale distributed web and mobile applications.
• Experience designing and implementing Java test automation frameworks using JUnit, TestNG, or equivalent frameworks.
• Experience architecting end-to-end test automation solutions covering frontend UI and backend REST APIs.
• Expertise in API testing and backend validation using tools such as REST Assured.
• Understanding of core web and mobile technologies and networking protocols, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and HTTP/HTTPS.
• Ability to balance multiple efforts and meet strict deadlines.
• Analytical, methodical, inquisitive, and persistent problem-solving skills, with a commitment to improving quality.
• Ability to abstract technical details and communicate effectively with audiences at different levels.

Nice To Haves

• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS.
• Familiarity with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain Java-based automated test frameworks and test suites using JUnit, TestNG, or equivalent technologies for web, mobile, and backend eCommerce services across AOS and ASA.
• Design, implement, and maintain UI automation frameworks and test suites for web and mobile platforms using Selenium, Playwright, Appium, or equivalent tools.
• Execute API testing using REST Assured and related tools to verify data integrity and backend service functionality.
• Partner with software engineers and product managers to analyze requirements, map software workflows, and ensure system testability.
• Develop, implement, and execute comprehensive test plans and test cases to maximize coverage across continuous integration pipelines.
• Define test automation requirements and architect solutions that streamline testing processes and shorten release cycles.
• Communicate testing status, risk assessments, and quality metrics to cross-functional stakeholders throughout project lifecycles.
• Advocate software testing best practices and modern engineering methodologies across the organization to improve product quality.
