About The Position

The Software Development Engineer II is part of Expedia Group’s Servicing team, which builds agentic AI systems that power traveler self-service experiences across its brands and partners. The role designs, builds, and operates agents and supporting infrastructure that help travelers resolve complex servicing needs end-to-end without human intervention. Work includes agent orchestration, tool integration, LLM-powered reasoning pipelines, and backend services built for reliability at scale. The engineer collaborates with Product, XD, Program Management, and engineering partners to shape technical direction and traveler experiences. They own features end-to-end, contribute to technical design, and promote engineering quality through testing, observability, and operational excellence. Expedia Group’s Technology Team develops products, services, and tools across the company using a technology platform powered by data and machine learning to deliver secure, differentiated, and personalized experiences.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience in software development.
Professional software engineering experience building, testing, and operating backend, frontend, or full-stack services or applications, including ownership of at least one significant service or feature in production.
Proficiency in at least one modern programming language used at Expedia Group.
Familiarity with service-oriented or microservices architectures, including API design, data modeling, and low-level system design.
Experience with version control, automated testing, code review, debugging, and monitoring in a collaborative Agile team environment.
Familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real-world products.

Nice To Haves

Experience designing and evolving services or components for multiple use cases or products, including effective API contracts, data models, and integration patterns across teams.
Track record of improving production system performance, reliability, or cost efficiency through data-driven analysis, observability, and systematic incident prevention and resolution.
Hands-on experience with cloud-based infrastructure, deployment pipelines, and configuration management to build, release, and operate services at scale.
Ability to leverage AI-assisted development tools, code generation, or intelligent automation to improve engineering velocity while maintaining code quality and safety.
Experience incorporating or consuming AI/ML-enabled capabilities in applications or services, including safely integrating and operating them in production.

Responsibilities

Design, implement, and maintain reliable, scalable, and secure services and components using Expedia Group’s standard technologies, including clean APIs, robust data models, and well-factored low-level designs.
Deliver high-quality production code through test automation, code reviews, and continuous integration practices for services operating across multiple products or domains.
Collaborate with peers, product managers, technical program managers, and other partners to refine requirements, break down complex problems, and deliver incremental value in an Agile environment.
Instrument services to monitor performance, reliability, and availability; triage and resolve production issues; and participate in on-call or support activities to improve stability and operational excellence.
Apply secure coding practices and engineering standards and patterns; contribute to shared libraries, tooling, or platforms that accelerate development for multiple teams.
Work with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows to enhance developer productivity and product capabilities, including safely integrating and operating AI/ML-enabled solutions.
