About The Position

Leidos’ Defense Sensors - Sensor Research and Analysis Division is seeking a Software Developer to support radar design, hardware builds, algorithm and software development, hardware-in-the-loop (HWIL) testing, and analysis across research, development, and operational tasks. The role focuses on designing, implementing, and optimizing real-time software for RF seeker capabilities and signal-processing pipelines. The developer will maintain familiarity with fielded systems, investigate emerging RF seeker technologies, and develop studies to inform customers about seeker technology advancements. These studies may include provisional MATLAB modeling, closed-loop simulation, and validation on radar hardware. The developer will collaborate with algorithm development engineers to transition prototype algorithms, such as MATLAB or Python models, into robust, maintainable, high-performance modern C++ software architectures for real-time and embedded environments. The role also involves closed-loop simulations, HWIL integration, radar hardware system validation, and presenting study progress and findings to government and prime contractor stakeholders. The developer will work with the division on radar development and testing activities. This is an onsite role in the Huntsville–North Alabama area; candidates must reside locally or be willing to relocate. U.S. citizenship and an existing or obtainable Secret clearance are required.

  • Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering or a related technical field from an ABET-accredited institution and 2 or more years of experience in one or more listed experience areas, or a relevant master's degree with exposure to one or more listed experience areas.
  • Excellent mathematics skills and/or strong fundamentals in one or more of the following: signals and systems, digital signal processing, tracking algorithms, or electromagnetics.
  • Ability to apply relevant skills to radar modeling and simulation, antenna array theory, digital signal processing, tracking, algorithm development, and field testing of sensor systems.
  • Experience using MATLAB, Python, or similar scientific programming tools to implement mathematical or science-based phenomena related to linear systems, digital signal processing, tracking, or electromagnetics.
  • Experience developing component, subsystem, or system acceptance and verification test plans and reports.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a strong technical background.
  • Positive, proactive attitude and enthusiasm for learning, collaboration, and challenging engineering problems.
  • Must reside in the North Alabama area or be willing to relocate to the Huntsville–North Alabama area.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and possess and be able to maintain a Final Secret Clearance, or be eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated proficiency in several of the listed experience areas.
  • Highly organized, with the ability to work independently at times in a fast-paced, highly productive work environment.
  • Ability to create design documentation, requirements specifications, and other technical documentation.
  • Demonstrated experience understanding, evaluating, and implementing published scientific literature, such as IEEE publications.
  • Relevant publications in listed experience areas.
