About The Position

The Software Developer IV – Mainframe Application Development Lead leads the design, development, maintenance, and modernization of critical enterprise mainframe applications. The role requires technical expertise in COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2, VSAM, IBM z/OS, system integration, and production support. The lead provides technical guidance, oversees complex development efforts, supports strategic modernization initiatives, and helps ensure the stability and scalability of business-critical systems. The position translates user requirements and systems objectives of increasing complexity into logical, efficient, and optimal systems designs. It develops and maintains applications by writing code that meets business rules, security standards, and government regulations; recommends issue resolutions to management; and creates and executes test plans for new and changed components. The role is hybrid-remote, based out of the Brooklyn, Ohio office, with onsite work required on designated in-office days each week.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
At least 6 years of information systems experience.
At least 4 years of analysis and design experience.
Advanced understanding of programming design and coding techniques.
Advanced understanding of multiple hardware and software platforms, such as mainframe, distributed, and cloud.
Solid understanding of project management practices.
Advanced understanding of the systems development life cycle.

Nice To Haves

Master’s degree in Computer Science, business, or a related field, or equivalent experience preferred.
Expertise in COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2, VSAM, IBM z/OS, system integration, and production support.

Responsibilities

Develop and maintain new and existing applications by analyzing, designing, and writing code of increasing complexity to satisfy logical, efficient, and optimal systems designs.
Participate on project teams and serve as development lead on complex systems or subsystems as needed.
Lead program-level and system-level testing, implementation, and break-fix tasks associated with business applications, including multiple platforms.
Develop documentation of technical workflows and systems designs, and verify them against user requirements.
Work with database and security staff to ensure data and security standards are properly applied.
Learn new technical concepts and software languages as needed.
Coach and mentor team members to support staff development.
Provide management with recommendations for issue resolution.
Create and execute test plans for new and changed components.
Perform other duties as assigned.
