About The Position

FWI is hiring a hands-on Software Developer to build and operate the company’s web applications end to end, including code, data, deployments, and production support. The role will help move platforms into Microsoft 365 GCC High and Azure Government to meet Department of Defense customer security requirements. The developer will work directly with the executive who owns the product effort and reviews code, inheriting React and TypeScript applications backed by Python services and PostgreSQL on serverless cloud infrastructure. These applications support internal teams and are moving toward customer use; some integrate with large language model APIs, and several need live integrations in place of prototype data. The role will harden existing applications into production-grade services with monitoring, tests, and clean deployments, then build AI-driven features on a compliant foundation. This is a full-time remote position, Monday through Friday. FWI describes itself as a rapidly expanding company and a 2024, 2025, and 2026 Top Workplace, with growth opportunities in a collaborative environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • 3–6 years of professional software development experience, including at least 2 years supporting production applications used by real users.
  • Strong TypeScript and React skills; comfort with Python; solid SQL and PostgreSQL schema design.
  • Experience deploying and operating cloud applications on at least two major cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP), including serverless or containerized services.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 and Azure identity (Entra ID, conditional access, role-based access control), or a strong desire to learn it quickly.
  • Hands-on experience building with large language model APIs, including prompt design, retrieval, structured output, and evaluation.
  • Habitual use of Git-based workflows, code review, and automated testing.
  • Clear written communication, including the ability to explain design decisions to non-technical colleagues.
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Curiosity and ownership, with a willingness to figure things out rather than wait for a ticket.

Responsibilities

  • Own production web applications from repository to runtime, including feature development, bug fixes, releases, and on-call support.
  • Build and extend React and TypeScript front ends and Python back-end services on PostgreSQL.
  • Replace prototype data with live integrations to third-party and government data APIs.
  • Design and ship features using large language model APIs, including retrieval, structured output, and agentic workflows.
  • Establish automated tests, CI/CD, logging, monitoring, backups, and documented runbooks.
  • Write documentation that non-developers can follow.
  • Work with application users to understand their needs and build appropriate solutions.
  • Prototype quickly, measure results, and discontinue approaches that do not work.
