About The Position

ASTRON is hiring a Software developer data processing pipelines. You will become part of a team responsible for developing and maintaining the data processing pipelines for the International LOFAR telescope. Our pipelines are operational software processing petabytes of data, which means they must be scientifically correct, reliable and extremely efficient. We’re looking for an experienced software developer to strengthen the team. You will improve and extend pipelines, by implementing new functionality, enhancing code quality and ensuring software reliability. The pipelines are written in Python and C++, as well as the Common Workflow Language. You will work together closely with our high-performance computing (HPC) team and make use of expertise in the radio astronomical community around the LOFAR telescope. The position provides ample opportunity to deepen and hone your software development skills and, ultimately, take ownership of one or more scientific pipelines.

Requirements

  • Experienced in Python and preferably also in C++.
  • Ample experience with software development practices.
  • Enjoy working in teams and collaborating across disciplines.
  • Demonstrable experience with scientific data processing.

Nice To Haves

  • A background in (astro)physics or a related field (MSc or PhD).
  • Experience with distributed computing on HPC clusters.
  • DevOps experience.
