About The Position

Join BigBear.ai to modernize and connect mission-critical systems for the Defense Intelligence Agency. The role combines modern cloud-native engineering with legacy compatibility to deliver secure, reliable services used by analysts and operators. Work includes designing APIs, building back-end services, and developing integration patterns that help legacy and next-generation systems remain interoperable and mission-ready in a secure environment.

The Senior Software Developer works with Node.js and TypeScript, containers, CI/CD, and databases while addressing security and compatibility challenges. The role requires independent management of multiple complex assignments and collaboration in Agile teams through planning, code reviews, architecture discussions, and continuous improvement. Clear documentation, testing, and runbooks support auditable, repeatable deployments into SCIF-capable environments. Applicants must currently reside in the United States and hold the required TS/SCI clearance with a current CI polygraph.

Requirements

• Must currently reside in the United States.
• TS/SCI clearance with a current CI polygraph.
• Bachelor’s degree and at least 6 years of software/application development experience, or at least 8 years of experience in lieu of a degree.
• At least 2 years of experience modernizing or maintaining legacy systems alongside new development.
• Strong back-end skills with Node.js and TypeScript.
• Experience with Docker and practical knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, such as GitLab CI or similar.
• Experience with MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Redis, and Elasticsearch/OpenSearch.
• Ability to independently manage complex workstreams and communicate technical tradeoffs to stakeholders.
• Comfort working in secure environments with strict operational controls and documentation requirements.

Nice To Haves

• Recent hands-on development experience within the last 2 years is preferred.
• Familiarity with NestJS or Express.
• Familiarity with Angular or front-end integration for integration validation.
• Experience with Jest or other test frameworks and performance benchmarking.
• Exposure to Azure or AWS and container orchestration basics such as Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of metadata, data catalogs, or governance concepts, including lineage, schema, and classification.
• Additional server-side language experience, such as Java or Python, or middleware/integration experience.

Responsibilities

• Implement features, enhancements, and bug fixes that enable successor and legacy systems to coexist reliably.
• Build and maintain secure, performant, and maintainable back-end services, RESTful APIs, and integration layers.
• Develop and operate containerized services and CI/CD pipelines for repeatable deployments into SCIF-capable environments.
• Design data storage and access patterns, run performance tests, and optimize queries for MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Redis, and Elasticsearch.
• Participate in sprint planning, code reviews, architecture discussions, and continuous-improvement efforts within Agile teams.
• Produce documentation, unit and integration tests, and runbooks to make deployments auditable and repeatable.
• Independently manage multiple complex assignments with minimal oversight and propose innovative technical solutions.
