About The Position

This role focuses on building internal software tools to streamline the work of automation engineers. The goal is to eliminate repetitive tasks, such as manual database checks and recreating configurations, by developing user-friendly tools that make the more efficient way of working the easier way. The position is fully remote.

Requirements

  • 3 to 5 years building software, with significant experience in Python and proficiency in SQL or JavaScript
  • Experience in or alongside industrial automation (SCADA, PLCs, controls, manufacturing systems, systems integration, or OEM work)
  • Ability to discuss industrial automation concepts like tag databases, alarm configurations, and vendor file formats
  • A proven track record of building tools that have been adopted and used by others
  • Working knowledge of version control, CI/CD, and automated testing in practice
  • An instinct for standardization and identifying opportunities for reusable solutions
  • Ability to clearly explain technical concepts to non-software engineers and receive feedback constructively
  • No degree required; focus is on built work

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience with Ignition
  • Experience with Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider Electric, or GE ecosystems
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools with a realistic understanding of their benefits and limitations
  • Experience with APIs, data processing, and automation scripting
  • Experience in Agile or iterative development environments
  • Exposure to industrial manufacturing processes

Responsibilities

  • Design and build internal tools that take repetitive engineering work off your teammates' plates
  • Write utilities, scripts, and services in Python, SQL, JavaScript, and other relevant languages
  • Build automated testing and validation for automation project artifacts to catch problems before deployment
  • Champion source control, branching strategy, and CI/CD using Git and Azure DevOps
  • Identify areas where projects start from scratch and build reusable solutions
  • Evaluate and introduce AI-assisted workflows for documentation, code generation, validation, and knowledge retrieval
  • Collaborate with engineers to understand their workflows and translate those insights into usable tooling
  • Write documentation and training materials to ensure tool adoption
  • Maintain a backlog and prioritize work based on operational impact
