About The Position

The Software Configurator Product Manager owns the strategic development of Nomad’s product configurator, the software platform that translates customer needs into engineering ready, costed, solutions. This role bridges Sales, Engineering, and Production, and is instrumental in how Nomad scales its Standard Product design. We seek a candidate who is part product leader, part systems architect, and part hands-on builder with the drive to chart and execute a long-term vision for Nomad’s Software Configurator.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen for consideration and meet all Federal Contractor employee requirements.
  • Experience managing individual contributors, small teams, or third-party contractors; prior Team Lead experience preferred.
  • Strong stakeholder orientation; skilled at translating user and business needs into technical requirements and building organizational capability around new platforms.
  • Demonstrated success leading complex software development programs with evolving requirements and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Exceptional organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Professional written and verbal communication abilities.

  • Proficiency with ERP systems (IFS experience a strong plus), AI-assisted development platforms, and standard business tools; comfortable keeping pace with emerging software and automation technologies.
  • 5+ years in software development, systems architecture, or technical product leadership; experience building or managing rule-based systems, configuration engines, CPQ tools, or ERP-integrated software strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of data structures, APIs, and system integrations; experience with rule-based or CPQ systems a strong plus.

Responsibilities

  • Create and advance the Configurator’s development roadmap, aligning priorities with company objectives and Nomad Standard Product design established by Team 1.
  • Champion data-driven decision-making.
  • Develop frontend interfaces and supporting backend systems for the Configurator and integrated platform applications.
  • Ensure Configurator integrates cleanly with Team 1 standards for Electrical, IT, Human Factors, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Stay abreast of parallel industry uses of Standardization, Modularity, and product configurators to inform the development of Nomad's product configurator.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
  • Engage in hands-on technical project management: estimate work, set priorities, coordinate with stakeholders, debug across platforms, and ensure successful delivery through comprehensive testing.
  • Hire, develop, and manage team members and third-party contractors, matching technical skillsets to project needs and maintaining development goals and schedules.
  • Conduct quarterly reviews and provide mentoring including coaching, code reviews, and professional development when applicable, for each team member.
  • Perform build vs. buy analyses to determine optimal technical solutions.
  • Champion adherence to Nomad Core Values.
  • Serve as the technical authority for the Configurator across all Innovation Solutions teams.
  • Communicate clearly across Engineering, Sales, Operations, and IT; serve as the primary point of contact for Configurator status, decisions, and cross-functional coordination.
  • Collaborate with Sales Engineering to ensure their needs are identified and taken into consideration when planning, prioritizing, and building new features and modules, improving system usability, and fixing bugs.
  • Participate in technical meetings and provide strategic recommendations.
  • Collaborate with Quality Assurance and Production to incorporate lessons learned into future product.
  • Define and implement workflows that improve Configurator development efficiency; support end users with documentation, tools, and technical assistance; maintain active participation in relevant cross-functional program meetings.
  • Plan, estimate, and deliver Configurator development work on time and to scope, taking personal ownership of complex deliverables and removing obstacles that block progress.
  • Require design changes when software engineering standards or functionality requirements are not met.
  • Produce clean, efficient, well documented, high-quality code.
  • Ensure delivery of technically sound solutions.
  • Ensure the Configurator is built to Nomad’s software standards, design methods, and development practices, as defined by the Software Engineering Manager.
  • Support Team 1 in maintaining Nomad software design standards, modularity rules, templates, and libraries; ensure design methodologies, toolsets, and development roadmaps align with those standards.
  • Leverage AI-assisted development tools and agentic automation frameworks (e.g., LangChain, LangGraph, N8N) to accelerate Configurator development and support broader engineering automation initiatives.
  • Integrate AI/ML capabilities and automation workflows into Configurator and adjacent systems; ensure integrations with ERP and internal platforms are reliable, scalable, and cost-efficient.
  • Produce technical design documentation, architecture artifacts, and SOP contributions supporting AI and automation initiatives.
  • Stay current with emerging AI, automation, and configurator technologies; champion adoption of relevant tools across engineering operations and advise on infrastructure decisions.
