About The Position

We’re looking for a software configuration manager in the United States. The SCM ensures that all software components are consistently configured, tracked, and maintained according to established standards and best practices. The position involves developing and implementing plans for identifying, controlling, and auditing configurations across the company. By managing changes to prevent service disruptions and maintaining accurate records, the SCM plays a crucial part in ensuring software stability and integrity. This role often involves collaboration with multiple development and operations teams to integrate software configuration management practices smoothly. Through meticulous tracking and documentation, they ensure that any changes to software are compliant with internal policies and external regulations.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software configuration management experience, ideally supporting multiple complex projects in C, C++, and Python
  • Experience supporting product delivery and developing at scale with teams greater than 10 engineers
  • Experience coordinating complex product development across teams globally
  • Experience communicating closely with engineers, managers, and other stakeholders
  • Must have experience in organizing and developing standard SCM processes
  • Ability to handle multiple complex conflicting priorities
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Experience in coaching team members to strengthen their abilities and skill sets

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with GitHub, GitLab, Jira, Confluence, and SharePoint
  • CI/CD experience in GitLab (preferred)
  • Government clearance (desirable)

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain the organization’s software configuration management plan, detailing processes and procedures for tracking system components.
  • Manage multiple software repositories, ensuring the accuracy of all configuration item records and their relationships.
  • Establish and control configuration baselines for software, providing a formal reference point for future builds and changes.
  • Lead and facilitate configuration control boards to review and approve proposed changes to system configurations.
  • Conduct regular audits and reviews of the software repositories to ensure they conform to documented standards and records.
  • Create and distribute reports on configuration status, metrics, and compliance to management and relevant technical teams.
  • Provide training and support to technical staff on configuration management policies, procedures, and the use of management tools.
  • Analyze and resolve issues related to configuration discrepancies and recommend improvements to existing processes.
