About The Position

Bedrock Knowledge, Inc. is an early-stage startup developing an enterprise SaaS social learning network for professional continuing education. Its product offers collaborative coursework, serious games, and informational streams, as well as analytics and insights for customers’ human capital strategies, leadership selection, and assignments. The Software Architect will help shape the company’s core products by defining architecture, interfaces, and type contracts for software built in part with AI coding agents. The role involves reviewing, testing, and integrating agent-generated code into a coherent, secure, and maintainable platform, while also applying strong software engineering fundamentals independently. This is a full-time, hybrid position based in the Washington, DC metro area. Candidates must live in the area or be willing to relocate and must have the right to work in the United States.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of professional experience building software as an engineer or software architect.
  • Hands-on experience directing AI coding agents on a real codebase and integrating and reviewing their output, beyond using autocomplete.
  • Strong fundamentals, preferably supported by a computer science education; able to work at a high level without AI coding tools.
  • Enjoys TypeScript or other strongly typed languages and knows how and when to use advanced type-system features.
  • Experience integrating systems and code from multiple engineers.
  • Experience delivering strongly typed, versioned, documented APIs; opinions on REST, WebSocket, and (g)RPC frameworks.
  • Experience architecting federated service-oriented solutions that support external customer engagement and enterprise growth.
  • Experience isolating heavy transactional or computational workflows with decoupled, event-driven messaging systems.
  • Experience creating cloud infrastructure with scaling rules using container orchestration platforms.
  • Production experience with cloud providers such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud, and container infrastructure such as Docker.
  • Strong knowledge of in-memory key-value stores such as Redis, as well as database indexing and query tuning.
  • Comprehensive skills with asynchronous event-streaming pipelines.
  • Belief in the power of lifelong learning.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.
  • Lives in the Washington, DC metro area or is willing to relocate there.

Responsibilities

  • Define module boundaries, interfaces, and strongly typed contracts that keep agent-generated code consistent.
  • Review and integrate agent-produced code, identifying design drift, duplication, and bugs before production.
  • Maintain specifications, context files, and conventions that guide coding agents.
  • Build test coverage and CI/CD checks to guard against issues in AI-generated changes.
  • Review agent output for security issues, including unsafe input handling, authorization gaps, and leaked secrets.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a small team and take ownership of delivering high-quality educational software.
  • Use AI and agentic coding tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, Devin, and Codex.
  • Write clean, maintainable TypeScript code in a dynamic small-team setting with minimal oversight.
  • Deliver end-to-end platform features and new APIs using existing testing and CI/CD infrastructure.
  • Identify where additional testing and CI/CD infrastructure is needed and work with the team to establish it.
  • Give and receive peer feedback professionally, encouraging best practices and clean code.
  • Participate in weekly sprint meetings, demonstrate work in progress to the Product team, and contribute to backlog grooming and prioritization.
  • Document selected APIs and occasionally serve as a technical point of contact for partners who use them.

Benefits

  • Stock options
  • Unlimited paid time off (PTO)
  • Annual and performance-based bonuses
  • Healthcare, dental, and vision coverage with 100% of employee premiums covered
