The product offers collaborative coursework, serious games, and informational streams, along with analytics and insights for customers. The Software Architect will help shape the company’s core products by designing software architecture, interfaces, and type contracts for a platform whose code is frequently produced with AI coding agents. The role includes reviewing, testing, and integrating agent-generated work to maintain a coherent, secure, and maintainable platform. It is a full-time, hybrid position based in the Washington, DC-metro area.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of professional experience building software as an engineer or software architect.
  • Hands-on experience directing AI coding agents on a real codebase and integrating and reviewing their output, beyond using autocomplete.
  • Strong software fundamentals; a computer science education is preferred.
  • Ability to ship software and developer tools and choose appropriate levels of abstraction.
  • Ability to perform at a high level without AI coding tools.
  • Experience with TypeScript or other strongly typed languages and advanced type-system features.
  • Experience integrating systems and code from multiple engineers.
  • Experience delivering strongly typed, versioned, documented APIs; familiarity with REST, WebSocket, and (g)RPC frameworks.
  • Experience architecting federated service-oriented solutions for external customer engagement and enterprise growth.
  • Experience isolating transactional or computational workflows with decoupled, event-driven messaging systems.
  • Experience creating cloud infrastructure with scaling rules using container orchestration platforms.
  • Production experience with a cloud provider such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud, and container infrastructure such as Docker.
  • Strong knowledge of in-memory key-value stores such as Redis, as well as database indexing and query tuning.
  • Comprehensive skills with asynchronous event-streaming pipelines.
  • Right to work in the United States.
  • Lives in the Washington, DC metro area or is willing to relocate there.

  • Build test coverage and CI/CD checks to guard against issues in AI-generated changes.
  • Review agent output for security issues, including unsafe input handling, authorization gaps, and leaked secrets.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a small team and take ownership of the role’s work.
  • Use AI and agentic coding tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, Devin, and Codex.
  • Write clean, maintainable TypeScript code in a dynamic small-team environment with minimal oversight.
  • Deliver end-to-end platform features and new APIs using existing testing and CI/CD infrastructure.
  • Identify gaps in testing and CI/CD infrastructure and work with the team to create new processes.
  • Give and receive peer feedback professionally, encouraging best practices and clean code.
  • Participate in weekly sprint meetings, demonstrate work in progress to the Product team, and contribute to backlog grooming and prioritization.
