About The Position

As a Software Architect SME, the work you’ll do at GDIT will be impactful to the mission of Customs and Border Patrol. You will play a crucial role in supporting solution development and integration activities for the U.S. Border Patrol’s Integrated Surveillance Tower (IST) deployments and system modernization efforts. The candidate will contribute to edge-processing software, multi-sensor fusion pipelines, API integrations, and secure system-to-system interfaces within DHS technical and cybersecurity requirements. This role supports the engineering of real-time surveillance technologies, integration of Enforcement Zone Cameras (EZC), Linear Ground Detection System (LGDS), and Integrated Surveillance Towers (IST), and the development of scalable solutions post‑proof‑of‑concept.

Requirements

  • Technical Training, Certification(s) or Degree
  • 10+ years of related experience
  • System Integration Development: Proven experience developing system‑to‑system integrations, middleware services, and multi‑platform API-driven solutions. Experience with PureTech and Lattice solutions.
  • API Architecture & Development: Architecting and implementing RESTful APIs, integrating third‑party APIs, and designing interface control documents (ICDs).
  • Edge Computing Integration: Experience working with edge devices, distributed compute nodes, IoT/OT systems, or real-time sensor platforms.
  • C# Development: Strong professional experience with C#, .NET/.NET Core, service development, multithreading, and asynchronous programming.
  • JSON Expertise: Extensive experience using JSON for data exchange, serialization, schematization, and API contract design.
  • Cybersecurity Experience: Hands-on experience applying DHS or federal cybersecurity requirements
  • Security clearance level: Secret; CBP BI/Suitability Required
  • US citizenship required

Responsibilities

  • Lead/Manage/Support software modules enabling integration between disparate systems, sensors, services, and cloud environments.
  • Collaborate with system engineers, sensor specialists, UI developers, cybersecurity teams, and government stakeholders.
  • Drive participation in full lifecycle development including requirements analysis, design, development, integration, testing, deployment, documentation, and support.
  • Architect API-based solutions requiring data transformation, API orchestration, and secure communications between multiple operational technology (OT), IT, and edge systems.
  • Develop software components required for edge compute operations including data ingestion, sensor fusion, event correlation, and metadata packaging.
  • Build and maintain C# services, libraries, and microservices supporting system interoperability.
  • Work with structured and unstructured data using JSON for serialization, data models, event metadata, and system logs.
  • Integrate software with on‑premise edge devices, surveillance systems, and operational field technologies.
  • Implement cybersecurity controls in compliance with DHS requirements, including role-based access, encryption, secure protocols, and best-practice hardening techniques.
  • Participate in full lifecycle development including requirements analysis, design, development, integration, testing, deployment, documentation, and support.
  • Collaborate with system engineers, sensor specialists, UI developers, cybersecurity teams, and government stakeholders.
  • Support troubleshooting, system diagnostics, performance optimization, and real-time issue resolution.
  • Contribute to scalability recommendations, architectural improvements, and future system evolution plans.
