About The Position

Siemens is seeking a Software Architect for Real-Time and Embedded Systems to be based in Wendell, North Carolina. This role will lead the design and evolution of embedded software solutions for electrical power network systems, including protection, automation, monitoring, and communication. The architect will drive architectural decisions across various software layers, from application software to hardware platforms, collaborating with developers, system architects, and product owners to deliver high-performance, reliable solutions for critical infrastructure. The position involves hands-on engineering, technical leadership, architectural governance, and platform ownership, aiming to establish consistent engineering practices and promote scalable, reusable software solutions across global development teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 8+ years of experience with developing software for embedded, industrial, real-time, or other technical systems.
  • 8+ years of experience programming in C++, preferably C++17 or C++20.
  • 8+ years of experience with software architecture, object-oriented design, software design patterns, and modern development practices.
  • 8+ years of experience with embedded operating systems including embedded Linux, hardware abstraction layers, and system-level debugging.
  • 8+ years of experience with real-time systems, concurrency, resource management, and deterministic software execution.
  • 3–5 years of experience evaluating architectural alternatives and making technical trade-offs involving performance, reliability, maintainability, security, and delivery needs.
  • 3–5 years of experience designing maintainable and scalable software architectures.
  • 3–5 years of experience with analytical communication and problem-solving across multidisciplinary and globally distributed engineering organizations.
  • 3–5 years of experience with cybersecurity principles and secure software design for critical infrastructure.
  • Ability to travel internationally for initial training.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Defining and maintaining architecture for embedded software components, subsystems, application software, communication services, operating systems, hardware interfaces, protocol stacks, runtime services, and platform infrastructure.
  • Designing software solutions that meet real-time, reliability, cybersecurity, performance, verification, and product quality requirements for critical infrastructure applications.
  • Guiding technical decisions, architectural trade-offs, platform evolution, and software reuse across long-lived product platforms and technology domains.
  • Partnering with product owners, system architects, protection experts, communication specialists, and development teams to translate product requirements and technology strategies into scalable software solutions.
  • Supporting system integration, verification, performance optimization, product release activities, and engineering practices that improve software quality, automation, and development efficiency.
  • Mentoring engineers, promoting knowledge sharing, and providing clear architectural direction across protection, communication, application, and embedded platform teams.
  • Collaborating with international R&D organizations and cross-functional stakeholders.
