About The Position

The CCMS Softball Coach will be responsible for teaching age-appropriate softball skills, including throwing, catching, hitting, bunting, base running, fielding, pitching, and defensive positioning. The coach will foster a positive team culture that promotes effort, respect, teamwork, confidence, and school pride. This role requires a commitment to developing student-athletes both on and off the field, emphasizing character, discipline, responsibility, sportsmanship, and academic accountability. The coach will organize and conduct effective practices, manage team responsibilities, and ensure a safe and structured environment for all student-athletes. This position is a softball coach with no teaching responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the fundamentals, rules, and strategies of softball.
  • Ability to teach age-appropriate softball skills.
  • Strong understanding of middle school student development.
  • Ability to work effectively with young adolescents.
  • Strong communication skills with students, parents, school administration, and athletic staff.
  • Willingness to follow all school, district, TMSAA/TSSAA, and athletic department rules, policies, and expectations.
  • Must meet all district requirements for coaching, including background checks, required trainings, certifications, and any other employment or volunteer requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience coaching, playing, or assisting with softball at the youth, middle school, high school, or comparable level preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Teach age-appropriate softball skills, including throwing, catching, hitting, bunting, base running, fielding, pitching, and defensive positioning.
  • Create a positive team culture that promotes effort, respect, teamwork, confidence, and school pride.
  • Develop student-athletes both on and off the field, focusing on character, discipline, responsibility, sportsmanship, and academic accountability.
  • Organize and conduct effective practices focusing on skill development, team concepts, conditioning, safety, and player growth.
  • Supervise student-athletes before, during, and after practices, games, travel, and team activities.
  • Maintain a safe, structured, and respectful environment for all student-athletes.
  • Model professionalism, integrity, emotional control, and good sportsmanship at all times.
  • Collaborate with school administration, athletic directors, and other coaches to support the overall athletic program.
  • Manage team responsibilities such as equipment, uniforms, schedules, communication, field preparation, and game-day organization.
  • Follow all school, district, TMSAA/TSSAA, and athletic department rules, policies, and expectations.
  • Meet all district requirements for coaching, including background checks, required trainings, certifications, and any other employment or volunteer requirements.
