About The Position

This position is for a Boys Basketball Coach at Cannon County Middle School. The coach will be responsible for teaching basketball skills, developing student-athletes both on and off the court, and fostering a positive team culture. The role requires strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills, as well as a commitment to following all school, district, and athletic department policies. The coach must also ensure a safe and respectful environment for all student-athletes and meet all district coaching requirements.

Requirements

Knowledge of the fundamentals, rules, and strategies of basketball.
Ability to teach age-appropriate basketball skills.
Strong understanding of middle school student development and ability to work effectively with young adolescents.
Strong communication skills with students, parents, school administration, and athletic staff.
Must meet all district requirements for coaching, including background checks, required trainings, certifications, and any other employment or volunteer requirements.
Adaptability to deal with students and parents.

Nice To Haves

Experience coaching, playing, or assisting with basketball at the youth, middle school, high school, or comparable level preferred.

Responsibilities

Teach age-appropriate basketball skills, including shooting, passing, dribbling, defense, rebounding, spacing, and teamwork.
Build positive relationships with student-athletes, parents, staff, and the community.
Develop student-athletes in character, discipline, responsibility, sportsmanship, and academic accountability.
Create a positive team culture that promotes effort, respect, teamwork, and school pride.
Organize and conduct effective practices focusing on skill development, team concepts, conditioning, and player growth.
Follow all school, district, TSSAA, and athletic department rules, policies, and expectations.
Supervise student-athletes before, during, and after practices, games, travel, and team activities.
Maintain a safe, structured, and respectful environment for all student-athletes.
Model professionalism, integrity, emotional control, and good sportsmanship at all times.
Collaborate with school administration, athletic directors, and other coaches to support the overall athletic program.
Manage team responsibilities such as equipment, uniforms, schedules, communication, and game-day preparation.
Meet all district requirements for coaching, including background checks, required trainings, certifications, and any other employment or volunteer requirements.
