About The Position

The Social Worker for the Justice Mentoring Initiative provides intensive case management, counseling, and advocacy for youth involved in the juvenile justice system and their families. This role focuses on supporting approximately 30+ justice-involved youth through individualized service plans, goal setting, crisis intervention, and access to wraparound resources that promote stability, healing, and positive life outcomes. Working closely with mentoring staff and community partners, the Social Worker conducts assessments, provides one-on-one and group counseling, connects families to mental health and substance use services, and collaborates with schools, probation departments, law enforcement, and other agencies to ensure coordinated care. The role also includes maintaining detailed case documentation, participating in court proceedings when needed, and contributing to program development through ongoing training and team collaboration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Work or a related field (license or license-eligible preferred)
  • At least 2 years of experience working with at-risk youth and families.
  • Strong knowledge of juvenile justice systems, trauma-informed care, youth development, crisis intervention, and case management is essential.
  • Excellent counseling, communication, relationship-building, and organizational skills, along with cultural competence and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Must be very responsible; organized & demonstrate positive communication skills
  • Must demonstrate timeliness, attendance and most importantly, professionalism
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved oral or written instructions
  • Ability to relate to officials, staff and public in a courteous manner

Responsibilities

  • In coordination with the Justice Mentoring staff, work with Justice involved organizations to recruit 30+ youth & their families.
  • Conduct intake, assessments and develop individualized case, referral plans, work with caseload to create individual plans and setting goals, caseload progress monitoring, and advocacy for 30+ youth involved in the juvenile justice system
  • Provide one-on-one counseling and support to youth and their families
  • Facilitate group therapy sessions aimed at reducing high-risk behaviors while fostering pro-social skills and positive decision-making.
  • Create a referral, mental health, substance abuse programs and resource network to provide wrap around support for youth and their families.
  • Collaborate with schools, law enforcement, probation departments, city agencies and other community organizations to ensure comprehensive services for youth
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date case notes and documentation in accordance with agency policies and procedures
  • Provide court testimony and attend court hearings as needed
  • Attend trainings and participate in team meetings to improve knowledge and skills
