About The Position

At Baptist Housing, every day is an opportunity for you to help our seniors experience life well in supportive communities. As a Social Worker at Sun Pointe Village, you’ll be a valued member of a multidisciplinary care team, advocating for residents, supporting families, and contributing to a compassionate environment where each person is treated with dignity and respect. This position is 15 hours per week, typically worked over two days (Tuesdays and Thursdays), with shifts from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. In this role, you’ll support the psychosocial needs of residents while fostering a collaborative, wellness-focused environment. You’ll provide counselling, advocacy, and care planning support to ensure each resident receives holistic, person-centered care.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work (BSW) required; Master of Social Work (MSW) preferred.
  • The candidate must be registered in good standing with the BC College of Social Workers.
  • Minimum one year of experience providing services to seniors, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • You possess a robust understanding of gerontology and the psychosocial requirements of older adults.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strengths in counselling, crisis intervention, and conflict resolution.
  • Strong documentation, assessment, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Confidence working independently as well as within a multidisciplinary team.
  • A commitment to supporting residents with empathy, dignity, and respect.

Nice To Haves

  • Master of Social Work (MSW) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assess resident psychosocial needs and contribute to individualized care plans.
  • Provide adjustment counselling, one-to-one visits, crisis intervention, and emotional support.
  • Facilitate Resident Care Conferences and support residents and families during transitions, including move-in, transfer, or end-of-service planning.
  • Assist residents and families in navigating financial or material assistance programs as needed.
  • Model and promote Baptist Housing’s Wellness Model of Care.
  • Facilitate resident and family councils, support groups, and educational sessions.
  • Provide leadership as a member of the Administrative Team, supporting residence-wide initiatives.
  • Participate in policy review and revision, quality improvement, and data collection activities.
  • Work closely with residents, families, team members, and community agencies such as Community Care, the Public Guardian and Trustee, and disease-specific organizations.
  • Collaborate with other social workers across the Kelowna region to support consistency and workload relief.
  • Promote a safe and healthy workplace, identifying hazards and supporting safe practices.
  • Integrate evidence-based research into practice and maintain awareness of legislative and program changes.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and professional ethics in all interactions.
