About The Position

Social workers at NewYork-Presbyterian provide services to patients of all ages – from children to adults – who are admitted to our hospital or who are seen on an out-patient basis. As part of your health care team, the professional social work staff helps patients and families understand and cope with medical, psychological, and social issues related to their illness. Work alongside a team of Social Workers in caring for the psychiatric patient population across our inpatient and comprehensive psychiatric emergency department programs. You’ll coordinate discharge planning and continuum of care for patients and families from across the world. You’ll lead clinical debriefing meetings and work with colleagues in need of support after dramatic or stressful events. Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW)
  • Licensed Masters Social Work (LMSW) by the state of NY within 1 year of hire
  • Limited Permit (must supply exam date prior to start of employment)
  • Fieldwork or previous experience in a psychiatric setting
  • Knowledge base of bio-psychosocial model, Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders IV (DSM-IV) diagnoses, criteria for treatment of different diagnoses in an acute care setting, behavioral risk factors and of the impact of mental illness upon individual and family functioning.
  • Competency in individual, family and group treatment modalities and treatment techniques appropriate to an inpatient treatment setting.
  • Knowledge base of community and discharge planning resources and processes.
  • Effective organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated self-awareness.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT)
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate discharge planning and continuum of care for patients and families.
  • Lead clinical debriefing meetings.
  • Work with colleagues in need of support after dramatic or stressful events.
  • Form a therapeutic relationship with patients and maintain a neutral therapeutic stance.
  • Conduct initial evaluations and psychosocial assessments.
  • Establish individualized and measurable treatment goals.
  • Manage clinical, discharge planning and documentation requirements within assigned LOS of inpatient hospitalization.
  • Communicate effectively and collaborate within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Identify learning needs and apply supervisory feedback into practice.
