About The Position

The Social Worker/Mental Health Coach is a part-time role in HANAC, Inc.’s COMPASS Afterschool program. The position provides students with mental health support, social-emotional learning (SEL) activities, counseling, crisis intervention, therapy, medication support, and psychoeducation. The Social Worker is available seven hours per week during program hours. The COMPASS Afterschool program runs from 2:15–5:15 PM, Monday through Friday during the school year, and from 8:00 AM–6:00 PM, Monday through Friday during Holiday Camp and Summer Rising. The role is located at PS 212, 34-25 82nd Street, Jackson Heights, NY 11372, and reports to the Program Director.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in social work, Youth Development or Youth Studies, Mental Health Counseling, or a related mental health field.
• Experience managing and developing youth program content, supervising staff, and providing SEL training and coaching.
• Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with youth development frameworks, SEL curriculum, and DEI implementation is strongly preferred.
• Bilingual skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide students with mental health support, SEL lessons, counseling, and crisis intervention.
• Provide students with therapy, medication support, and psychoeducation.
• Develop individual and group sessions.
• Address academic, behavioral, and social issues related to students.
• Assess student needs and develop intervention strategies.
• Assist in training program staff on SEL activities and DEI implementation.
• Connect families to school and community resources.
• Serve as a liaison between school and home to improve student well-being and success.
• Provide conflict resolution, social skills, and family engagement support to students.
