About The Position

The MSW Social Worker provides direct services to shelter clients, including psychosocial assessments, case planning, and referrals. The role supports clients’ progress toward permanent housing and stability and typically operates under the clinical supervision of an LMSW or LCSW. The position reports directly to the LMSW Team Leader.

Requirements

• Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW).
• Strong interpersonal and documentation skills.
• Ability to work evenings, some weekends, and some holidays.
• Ability to ascend and descend stairs within the assigned building.
• Availability for 24/7 on-call duty.

Nice To Haves

• NYS LMSW license preferred, though it is not always required at the time of hire and may be required within a certain timeframe.
• Prior experience in social services or housing preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct psychosocial assessments and develop Individual Service Plans (ISPs).
• Provide case management, referrals, and advocacy for services such as mental health, medical, substance use, or legal assistance.
• Maintain timely and accurate documentation in DHS CARES or other mandated systems.
• Collaborate with shelter staff, including housing specialists and case managers, to support clients’ goals.
• Attend supervision sessions with the LMSW Team Leader.
• May assist with crisis intervention under guidance of licensed staff.
• Report regularly to the Team Leader on client progress, case updates, and service needs.
• Escort clients to appointments as needed.
