About The Position

Social Work Services at The Mount Sinai Hospital, a 1,134-bed facility with an extensive outpatient and specialty care network, offers comprehensive social work services to diverse populations. The department, founded in 1907, employs over 450 licensed social workers across more than 65 program/service areas and provides a pathway to LCSW licensure and continuing education. The Derald H. Ruttenberg Treatment Center focuses on patient-centered care for individuals with cancer throughout their journey. This outpatient oncology social worker position will primarily support patients within the Neuro-Oncology program, addressing the complex psychosocial, cognitive, and functional needs of patients with primary neuro-oncology diagnoses, and supporting their families and caregivers.

Requirements

  • NYS LMSW or LCSW.
  • Experience providing psychosocial services, both individual and group, to adult patients with cancer and/or end of life.
  • Knowledge of available cancer resources in the community.
  • Excellent clinical, communication, collaborative, and organizational skills.
  • One year in current position unless a float in Oncology.

Nice To Haves

  • Oncology experience preferred.
  • Program development experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides comprehensive psychosocial assessments and delivers a full spectrum of interventions to patients and their families, including individual and group-based support.
  • Assists patients and caregivers in coping with chronic illness, navigating treatment decisions, addressing palliative and end-of-life care needs, and providing bereavement support.
  • Helps patients access practical resources, including financial entitlements, home care services, and medication support.
  • Contributes to the development, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of oncology support programs in alignment with Commission on Cancer (CoC) standards.
  • Supports cancer initiatives and programming more broadly.
