About The Position

The Clinical Social Worker (MSW) is responsible for assessment, treatment planning and provision of social work services to patients, families, groups and the interdisciplinary team. This role involves psychosocial assessments, clinical interventions such as supportive counseling and referrals, managing a clinical caseload, adhering to legal and ethical standards, documentation, providing in-service training, preparing reports, and participating in quality improvement initiatives. The position is located at Keck Hospital of USC, a 343-bed acute care hospital known for its exceptional and innovative care for complex medical and surgical conditions.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Social Work/Social Welfare from an accredited graduate school of social work.
• 1 year of experience in a medical setting.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, planning, and evaluation skills.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively work with physicians, staff, and patients.
• Ability to function independently and as a member of a team.

Nice To Haves

• Associate Clinical Social Worker - ASW (CA DCA) Registered as Associate Clinical Social Worker within 30 days of hire, will maintain Associate Clinical Social Worker license or higher (LCSW) for the State of California.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association.
• Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) - If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)

Responsibilities

• Perform psychosocial assessments in a timely manner, considering human behavior, psychosocial factors impacting treatment, and potential ethical/risk issues.
• Provide clinical interventions including supportive counseling for patients and families, linkage and referral to community agencies, facilitating family conferences, and assisting families with difficult decisions (e.g., hospice, DNR, placement).
• Help families communicate concerns to the patient’s physicians.
• Collaborate with Case Managers on discharge planning.
• Triage and manage clinical caseload, identifying high-risk situations, balancing referrals, admissions, and patient care, and seeking assistance when needed.
• Incorporate legal and ethical standards into all clinical assessments and interventions (e.g., suspected abuse/neglect, Tarasoff duty, conservatorship, patient rights).
• Adhere to all Tenet Policies, Procedures, and Practices in the area of Social Services.
• Complete documentation per policy, including Interdisciplinary Plan of Care, Education Form, Advance Health Care Directive follow-up, and Social Services Progress Notes.
• Provide in-service training to other hospital staff regarding psychosocial issues in patient care.
• Provide Social Service reports in a timely manner (e.g., PAS numbers, Case assignment by SW, Absence Approval requests).
• Participate in the development, monitoring, and analysis of process and outcome indicators for patient care improvement.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• The annual base salary range for this position is $84,365.00 - $138,330.00.
