Social Worker, MSW - Transplant Social Services - Full Time 8 Hour Days (Exempt) (Non-Union)
About The Position
The Clinical Social Worker (MSW) is responsible for assessment, treatment planning and provision of social work services to patients, families, groups and the interdisciplinary team. This role involves performing psychosocial assessments, providing clinical interventions such as supportive counseling and linkage to community resources, managing a clinical caseload, adhering to legal and ethical standards, documenting patient care, providing in-service training to hospital staff, generating social service reports, and participating in quality improvement initiatives. The position is full-time, with 8-hour day shifts, and is classified as exempt and non-union.
Requirements
- Master's degree in Social Work/Social Welfare from an accredited graduate school of social work.
- 1 year of experience in a medical setting.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, planning and evaluation skills.
- Demonstrates ability to effectively work with physicians, staff, and patients.
- Able to function independently and as a member of a team.

- Associate Clinical Social Worker - ASW (CA DCA) Registered as Associate Clinical Social Worker within 30 days of hire, will maintain Associate Clinical Social Worker license or higher (LCSW) for the State of California.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association
- Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)
Responsibilities
- Perform psychosocial assessments using theoretical knowledge of human behavior, psychosocial factors impacting treatment, and potential ethical/risk issues.
- Provide clinical interventions including supportive counseling with patients and families, linkage and referral to community agencies, facilitating family conferences, and assisting families with difficult decisions (e.g., hospice, DNR, placement).
- Assist families with communicating concerns to the patient’s physicians.
- Collaborate with Case Managers on discharge planning issues.
- Triage and manage clinical caseload, identifying high-risk situations, managing caseload effectively, and balancing referrals, high-risk admissions, and ongoing patient care.
- Request assistance from colleagues or manager as needed.
- Incorporate legal and ethical standards into all clinical assessments and interventions (e.g., suspected abuse or neglect, Tarasoff duty to warn, conservatorship, patient rights).
- Adhere to all Tenet Policies, Procedure and Practices in the area of Social Services.
- Complete documentation per policy, including Interdisciplinary Plan of Care, Education Form, Advance Health Care Directive follow up form, and Social Services Progress Notes.
- Provide in-service training to other hospital staff regarding the psychosocial issues of patient care.
- Provide timely Social Service reports (e.g., PAS numbers, Case assignment by SW, Absence Approval requests).
- Participate in the development, monitoring, and analysis of process and outcome indicators for the improvement of patient care.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Benefits
- The annual base salary range for this position is $84,365.00 - $138,330.00.
