About The Position

CHEO is seeking a Social Worker for its Mental Health Acute Care Service. This role involves providing psychosocial assessments and therapeutic interventions to children and youth experiencing mental health challenges. The service focuses on short-term crisis stabilization, assessment, and diagnostic clarification within an interdisciplinary team. The Social Worker will offer evidence-based individual, family, and group psychotherapy and interventions.

Requirements

Experience within a children/youth mental health or pediatric healthcare setting.
B.S.W. graduate will be considered if other qualifications are met.
Membership in the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers and broad knowledge of Social Work theory, practice, and regulations.
Demonstrated expertise and knowledge about children and youth presenting with acute and complex mental health issues.
Knowledge of community resources.
Well-developed counseling skills in individual, family, and group therapy.
Demonstrated ability to conduct and document a comprehensive psychosocial assessment.
Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively within an inter-professional environment.
Cultural competencies for working in cross-cultural situations.
Vulnerable Sector Check (Level 3).

Nice To Haves

M.S.W. graduate from an accredited university program in Social Work.
Demonstrated ability to integrate the following approaches into practice: Strength-Based Perspective, Family System’s Theory, Crisis Intervention, Brief Solution-Focused Therapy & Grief & Bereavement.
Knowledge of community resources.
Bilingualism (French/English).

Responsibilities

Conducts comprehensive psychosocial and family assessments, including interviewing, gathering social data, and formulating assessment and intervention plans.
Provides counseling and support to families through brief individual and family counseling, crisis intervention, and conflict resolution.
Delivers therapeutic interventions using modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Trauma-Informed approaches.
Offers family therapy and group-based interventions.
Engages in training and education delivery for Social Work students and healthcare professionals.
Provides time-limited post-discharge care focused on safety and brief therapeutic interventions.
Advocates for families regarding services, supports, and community resource coordination.
Maintains current knowledge of social work evidence-based practice through literature review, consultation, and professional development.
Performs administrative tasks including clinical documentation, progress notes, workload statistics, and health record updates.
Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings.
Liaises with community partners such as School Boards, child welfare organizations, and community mental health providers.
Participates in and supports clinical research activities.
Participates in committees within the Social Work discipline.
Carries out other assigned responsibilities.
