About The Position

Under the supervision of a social worker who meets state required standards, this role conducts diagnostic assessments, determines clinical interventions, facilitates crisis intervention and psychotherapy, and provides education for patients and their families. The position requires effective verbal and written communication, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and external support systems, and participation in the development and implementation of treatment/transition plans. The social worker functions as a multidisciplinary team member, operating within the research, practice, and education frameworks at Mayo Clinic. This role also involves compliance with ethical and NASW standards for social workers in a healthcare setting, including medical/legal responsibilities, and serving as a resource to other allied and administrative staff within the section of Social Work and the Department of Nursing.

Requirements

  • MSW degree from an accredited Masters of Social Work Program
  • Advanced knowledge of categories in mental illness, personality development
  • Knowledge of the types of psychiatric treatment
  • Skills in conducting individual, group, and family therapy
  • Knowledge in adjustment to medical diagnosis and chronic disease
  • Strong human relation skills to interact with patients, patient's family members, consultants, residents, hospital personnel, community agencies, and other resources
  • Psychosocial diagnostic skills
  • Licensure by applicable state requirements
  • Arizona: Active license through Arizona State Board of Behavioral Health Examiners; Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) is required
