About The Position

The Social Worker, LMSW, is a licensed, master’s degree level professional who serves as a member of the multidisciplinary treatment team on the inpatient Behavioral Health Unit, providing direct clinical services such as individual, group, and family counseling; psychoeducation; treatment of co-occurring disorders; and complex care planning for persons with serious mental illness. The Social Worker, LMSW, may be assigned to train and supervise other staff or student interns as deemed appropriate for the program and related licensing requirements. The clinician is expected to provide excellent patient care with compassion in every encounter, aligned with the Hospital’s core values.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in social work, Mental Health Counseling, or a related field is required.
  • Current licensure and active registration to practice in New York State (LMSW, LCSW, LMHC, etc.) is required.
  • Maintains client confidentiality.
  • Respectful in interactions with staff & clients.
  • Knowledge of the developmental needs of the patient population served to inform treatment planning and delivery.
  • Expertise in assessment, diagnosis, treatment and crisis intervention
  • Familiarity with medications used in behavioral healthcare.
  • Maintains a calm demeanor when coping with difficulties.
  • Maintains clear personal/professional boundaries.
  • Is dependable to program & to clients; manages time effectively.
  • Demonstrates self-direction, good judgment and flexibility.
  • Informs supervisor of potential difficulties; seek consultation proactively.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to actively collaborate with health professionals in various disciplines, and to function as a team member.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience providing direct clinical services to patients experiencing serious mental illness is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct clinical treatment including individual, family, and group therapies, with a focus on stabilization, post-crisis growth, and motivational enhancement to participate in aftercare.
  • Facilitates development of Behavioral Intervention Plans for patients with complex and challenging behaviors.
  • Conducts initial clinical evaluations; identifies critical impairments that become the focus of treatment; and facilitates development of multidisciplinary treatment plans.
  • Documents all aspects of the evaluation and treatment process to potentiate patient care, facilitate effective treatment coordination, and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Coordinates treatment and intervention with members of other specialties active in patient care on the Behavioral Health Unit, including attendance at daily treatment team meetings.
  • Communicates with third party payers to facilitate insurance authorization and payment for services as needed.
  • Provides consultations to GFH medical floors/services to identify and meet immediate patient clinical needs.
  • Represents the hospital at relevant community coordination and discharge planning meetings.
  • Provides clinical training and supervision to other staff and/or students as assigned.
