About The Position

Children’s Minnesota is one of the largest pediatric health systems in the United States and the only health system in Minnesota to provide care exclusively to children, from before birth through young adulthood. The department at Children's of Minnesota provides care for children of all ages with all types of malignancies including brain tumors, solid tumors, and leukemia; and blood disorders such as sickle cell disease, bleeding disorders, and anemia. As the largest provider of services for children with cancer and bleeding disorders in the region, the Cancer and Blood Disorders program focuses on providing well-coordinated knowledge-driven clinical care. We participate in national and international research and are leaders in research on supportive care and quality of life for children with cancer and bleeding disorders.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in social work required.
  • Experience providing crisis intervention.
  • Two years experience with counseling in a health care related setting or two years experience in a pediatric related setting or completion of graduate internship in either of the above settings.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Ability to provide good, clear documentation of work.

  • Minnesota State LGSW, LICSW preferred

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a critical role in the care of teenagers and young adults treated for cancer at Children’s Minnesota and Abbott Northwestern Hospital.
  • Provide developmentally appropriate support for patients between the ages of 15 and 39.
  • Coordinate (AYA) Oncology Program services/initiatives at Children’s Minnesota and Abbott Northwestern Hospital.
  • Develop care plans and resource referral.
  • Provide referrals for fertility preservation.
  • Operate support groups or brief therapy appointments.
  • Provide other age-appropriate programming.
  • Work with Directors at the two respective sites and serve as a "bridge" between pediatric and young adult settings.
  • Be a part of our centralized Social Work Department.
