About The Position

This position involves recruiting, training, and licensing prospective foster parents along with retaining current foster parents. Another key responsibility is assisting foster families with day-to-day issues related to the children in their homes. This position also works to provide a permanent home for children in legal custody for the agency. This includes working with the child and the biological family to return the child home, place the child with relatives, legally clear the child for agency adoption, or providing preparation for independent living.

Requirements

Must have verbal and written communication skills in order to relate in a positive manner to clients, attorneys, and community partners.
Must have ability to thoroughly and objectively gather information.
Must have capacity to remain calm in stressful situations.
Must be able to work effectively in a teamwork setting and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with team members, within the Child Welfare Section, with community professionals, and agency leaders.
Must have a valid driver’s license and dependable transportation.
Must possess and be able to demonstrate intermediate level of personal computer skills.
Master's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work; OR Bachelor's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and completion of the Child Welfare Collaborative (Child Welfare positions only); OR Bachelor's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and one year directly related experience; OR Master's degree in a human services field and one year of directly related experience; OR Bachelor's degree in a human services field from an accredited college or university and two years directly related experience; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and three years of directly related experience.

Responsibilities

Recruiting, training, and licensing prospective foster parents.
Retaining current foster parents.
Assisting foster families with day-to-day issues related to the children in their homes.
Working to provide a permanent home for children in legal custody for the agency.

Legally clearing the child for agency adoption.

Recruiting prospective foster families within Wilson County.
Advocating for families and children.
Establishing trusting interpersonal relationships, and collaborating with community partners.
Thinking analytically and making timely and accurate decisions.
Properly documenting within proper timeframes, the forms, reports, electronic records, dictation and court summaries necessary in the total delivery of the job.
Demonstrating excellent problem-solving skills; identify and diffuse difficult situations to reduce tension and conflict.
Becoming knowledgeable about all aspects of the foster care and adoption program.
Performing the duties and responsibilities of the job within the judicial system.
Providing accurate court testimony when required.
Thoroughly and objectively gathering information.
Remaining calm in stressful situations.
Working effectively in a teamwork setting and maintaining cooperative and effective working relationships with team members, within the Child Welfare Section, with community professionals, and agency leaders.
Learning and implementing the agency’s integrated practice model of Signs of Safety and Trauma Informed practice.
Learning the Division’s electronic management system for Child Welfare, Path NC.
